Helping Hands

All of us believe that supporting good Causes is a responsibility of all good citizens, we also understand that in today’s challenging world, it is difficult to find the time.

However, devoting our lives to worthwhile actions, feelings and great thoughts is our choice. Choosing a sense of action that is worthwhile, focusing your thoughts on the important affections is an indescribable feeling that I personally wish upon everyone.

Now, sometimes situations which you would least expect turn out to be wonderful sources of inspiration.

Such situations, make us realise not to allow ourselves to be upset by small things we should despise and forget, but to focus on what really matters.

And what really matters is “Life”.

But isn’t it a shame that we humans often wait for sickness, tragedy or even death before we begin to get some real perspective.

Moving forward, when we find ourselves stuck in the same old pattern, is about helping ourselves to discover our incredible worth and uniqueness.

There are many ways of helping others. It could be by giving material goods or financial help. It could be lending a listening ear or just sitting beside the bed of someone sick. No matter the cause, we should help in our own unique way.

Remember, every good deed will not go unrewarded and as Jesus himself said:

“He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives Him who sent me.”

I have recently received a reward that is truly an ‘Honour’ and would love to share with you. The following is a message that actually brought tears to my eyes….

Linda Charlton June 30 at 2:24pm

Hi Marchi,

I am the President of the PNH Support Association of Australia and write to thank you for your kind support of our petition.

The name may sound fancy, but we are a tiny group of PNH patients trying to do whatever we can to get the Government to fund the only effective treatment for PNH.

The Association has a Facebook group page and we are promoting the petition online and on paper and so far have submitted 5500 signatures to Parliament. We are on track to submit a similar number again in about 2 weeks.

Thank you for including us in your blog and supporting me and the other 69 Australians with this debilitating disease.

Kind regards,
Linda Charlton

FBFKids (Facebook 4 Kids)

My oldest daughter has been asking me, for some time now, to allow her to open a Facebook account.  Hmmm! My reply “You have to be 13, and even then, I’m not absolutely sure!!! Even though am sure, she will learn social skills and make friends and if properly educated, she will learn about online privacy at an early age and will gain some technical proficiency.

I’m not a psychologist, but, I am a parent and in my opinion no child under the age of 13 should have a facebook, twitter, myspace etc account; reason being, such sites were built for the more mature audience!

So, once again, I let my fingers do the walking and after a long search I’ve been introduced to a site that is indeed designed for the little people who are interested in spreading their wings on the World Wide Web.

FBFKids is a non profit, safe, secure, monitored and moderated childrens social networking site, for the protection of our children.

They do very actively monitor activity on FbfKids.Com, mostly  24 x 7. Many times.. kids are banned for inappropriate behaviour with regard to Chats or Messages or Photo Ambum content, The *new Chat is now automated so that it will use “smart” technology to block out any “slamming”.

They have certain A.I. / Fuzzy logic coded to detect spammers and “lurkers” who might be unsafe for the general FBFKids’ user and we actively block these people using all the technology-smarts that they have available.

One of the Admins “Mother Hen” spends an enormous amount of her waking time monitoring any traffic going on through FBFKids. She is also a Mother of a 5 year old. FBFKids.com was created for her own child to play safely. Another Admin “MasterJack” routinely scans activity going on through FBFKids to ensure *safety for all children.

Please note, FBFKids is part of the fbfworld group FBF World and is not asocciated with Facebook.

Practice Safe Social Networking

NONA Belomesoff was offered what she thought was a dream job working with the New South Wales Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES). Instead she was allegedly lured to her death by a man she befriended on Facebook, who claimed to work for the animal welfare group. Read full story….

Queensland Police have issued an unprecedented warning to all teenagers to remove photos from the site after  Nona’s  murder.

It is a tragic reminder that people do not always represent themselves truthfully online. No matter what our age or gender we should be careful of the people we meet online.

Our days Social networking is everywhere. It is common to find parents, children, coworkers and even the elderly on the networks across the social media world on sites such as Twitter, MySpace, Facebook etc. With social networks people across the world have access to tools and options that were previously non existent.

However, there are just as many new opportunities to connect as there are to get into potential danger. Social networking has opened up many new doorways for cyber crime.

Participating  in online social networking sites  leaves a trail of personal information.

Should we forego social networking altogether? No,instead each and everyone of us should take responsibility for protecting ourselves and most of all our children.

How can you protect yourself and practice safe social networking?

Do your homework – Be sure to research the website before registering by reading over the website’s privacy policy, paying attention to the privacy settings, and seeing how the community is structured.

Customise your settings – Use the privacy features on the site you use to restrict access to your profile. The default settings for some sites may allow anyone to see your profile, you can customise your settings.

Look out for strangers – The Internet makes it easy for people to misrepresent their identities and motives. If you interact with people you do not know, be cautious about the amount of information you reveal or agreeing to meet them in person.

Use strong passwords – Protect your accounts with passwords that cannot easily be guessed.

Think before you post – Posts are not only shared by your friends but also their friends’ friends and so on.

Social media present powerful opportunities, but they also pose significant dangers. Do your best to keep yourself and your family safe and secure on the wide world web.

I Don't Usually Do This But....

I’d like to share with you a respond to online dating.

The following is a message I received from a very dear friend of mine….

A long time people have complained that it is very difficult to find the ideal person to have a serious relationship, and now with the run the day-to-day, find a boyfriend or girlfriend still gets more difficult. That is why the solution for anyone who wants to end the solitude ends up being the Internet.

I believe in the “E-Love”. The Internet was the most fantastic invention that provided to people from around the world to instantly communicate.
You can fall in love and have a relationship with a person who knows the Internet. The only problem may be the distance.

I even fell in love with an Italian. We started talking, we learn, laugh, have fun, exchange confidences and experiences, until she got a great feeling. But I had a life here and could not leave everything to be with her, unfortunately.

Here in Brazil, people use the networking site ORKUT with the intention of meeting their future boyfriends or girlfriends. I even created a fotolog that became popular in Brazil from 2003 to 2007 (www.fotolog.com / lindas_sc) Girls singles who wanted a boyfriend.

Through this simple fotolog, people met and began relationships. There was even a fact that a friend of mine that I posted, she met a guy and started dating. Last year, they married and I was invited to be the godfather.

The fact is that people just want to meet someone to love. They just want to know your other half. And the Internet today is the best way for you to meet people nowadays.”

Thank you for your time MrD.
