I’ve known Renan for some time now and I must say, he is one of those online identities that can actually get the ‘crowd’ going. The funny thing is, I don’t understand many of his tweets, being in Portuguese, however, I can see the reaction he gets from his friends and followers.
But what I do know, he is very kind and extremely helpful to many; rare qualities now days. He actually pays attention to his audience and furthermore, will make you feel like you’re part of it ALL.

How did you get started in Social Media?
I started in 2006 with ORKUT. Orkut is a social network similar to Facebook and mostly used by Brazilians.
What does Social Media mean to you?
It means a way to interact more quickly with friends, family, strangers, business and organizations.
How has Social Media impacted your day to day practice?
The speed of information and communication with my friends is something essential to my day-to-day, at work and my informal life. Through facebook, I find about promotions, conferences, study groups, political demonstrations, even shopping… all in real time.
It’s really fascinating, because 13 years ago, my family had no phone. There were few people who had the phone line. If a friend of mine moved from the neighborhood, I wouldn’t have heard from him in months. Today, via social networking, I know what sort of day my friends had.
What trends do you expect to see in Social Media in the near future?
More interaction with mobile devices and phones. People communicating online 24 hours a day.
How often do you change your Social Media strategies and what kind of changes are you making?
I’ve kept the same strategies since I started using Orkut.
How did you build your online audience?
I always post fun things. I also like to convey messages of self-help and talk about God and life. I am always posting video lectures, newspaper articles and indicating sites and services.
How are you finding your online experience?
I learn something new every day and meet new people. I’m always looking for information and technology.
Your preferred Social Platform?
Facebook has given us more information about people in real time, with images, videos, pictures…
What is the top reason you’d remove a current Social Media contact?
Someone who is jamming my timeline with nonsense!

Your most uncomfortable/weird online experience?
Some people are always trying to hack my twitter and facebook accounts… Nothing much, hahahaha!
What’s your advice for a new Social Media user?
Post very diverse content (tutorials, videos, funny, news, sports) and interact with people. Try to be a consultant for social networks.
What are your Social Media strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths – I like to share people’s ideas. I like to listen to people and talk.
Weaknesses – When I’m drunk, I connect on twitter and facebook, hahaha!
In your opinion, which is the most overrated Social Platform and why?
Twitter. I prefer the old one.
Do you aim to influence other Social Media users?
I only want people to understand what I am expressing and give their opposing views, or not.
Does your online contacts/followers count, matter to you?
Those with important content, yes they do. Those with no much to offer, I unfollow.
