Treats for your Feet….

It’s important to care for your feet and what better way to do so than to make your very own treats for your feet!  You’ll find the ingredients you need to make them at health food stores, aromatherapy stores and supermarkets.

Lavender Bath Salts

Pour a teaspoon or two of these bath salts into your foot bath and soak away the day’s aches.  The lavender oil used in this recipe has an antiseptic effect and will help keep your feet smelling nice.

You will need:

  • 2 cups Epsom salts
  • 1/4 in teaspoon glycerine
  • 4-6 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2-4 drops purple foo colouring
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Glass storage jar with lid
  1. Place the Epsom salts, glycerine, essential oil and food colouring in the mixing bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are combined.
  3. Spoon the bath salts into the storage jar and seal well to keep out the moisture.

Strawberry Foot Scrub

This fruity recipe helps remove dry skin from the soles of your feet, while it moisturises.  Try using it at your next pedicure.

You will need:

  • 2 heaped teaspoons fine oatmeal
  • 6 strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons thickened cream
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  1. Use the spoon to crush the strawberries into a fine mash in the mixing bowl.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix together thoroughly.
  3. Gently massage the mixture into your feet for several minutes.  Then rinse off.
  4. This mixture will not keep, so you need to mix a new batch each time you use it.

Light Perfumed Moisturiser

This light moisturiser is great to use when giving yourself a foot massage.  The vitamins in the oils will leave your feet looking and feeling great.

You will need:

  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons grapeseed oil (alternatively use sweet almond oil)
  • 8 drops essential oil of your choice
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Small dark coloured bottle
  1. Thoroughly mix all ingredients together in the bowl and pour into the bottle
  2. Seal the bottle well and store in a cool, dark place.
  3. Shake the bottle before use.  Apply a small amount at a time, as a little of this moisturiser goes a long way.

Tip! Don’t leave the cap off this mixture when not in use, and don’t let it get too warm.  Then it will last several weeks.  Heat, light and air make oils lose their healthy properties and go stale.

Simple Scented Foot Cleanser

This scented foot cleanser contains salt, which has antiseptic properties.  It will refresh those hot sweaty feet after a day in hills, and put a spring in your step.

You will need:

  • 1 cup mild unscented shampoo (baby shampoos are good)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6-8 drops peppermint or rose oil
  • 4-6 drops green food colouring
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Dark coloured bottle
  1. Thoroughly mix all ingredients together in the bowl, and pour into the bottle.
  2. Seal the bottle well and store in a cool, dark place.
  3. Use instead of soap each day, when you are washing your feet.  This cleanser also makes a great gift.

Tip! Before using any of the products, do a ‘patch test’ to ensure you aren’t allergic to them.  Apply a small dab to your wrist or neck and wait an hour.  If the product creates a red patch, wash it off immediately and do not use it.  Try one of the other recipes instead.

Be Well!!!!
